Fly Food Mixes
Food A Mix
A Cornmeal, Sucrose, and Yeast Medium.
Pre-measured dry mix. Each 930 g pouch makes 10 L of fly food.
Per Liter of A Food
- Agar: 0.8%
- Cornmeal: 2.7%
- Inactivated Yeast: 1.5%
- Sucrose: 4.3%
Usage:
To make 1 liter of food, dissolve 93 g of mix in 1 liter of water, cook >90°C for 10 minutes, add appropriate fungicides.
Food B Mix
Makes B food, the most popular fly food of LabExpress.
Pre-measured dry mix. Each 980 g pouch makes 10 L of fly food. Corn syrup needs to be added.
Per Liter of B Food
- Agar: 0.56%
- Cornmeal: 6.71%
- Inactivated Yeast: 1.59%
- Soy Flour: 0.92%
- Corn Syrup: 7.00%
Usage:
To make 1 liter of food, dissolve 98 g of mix in 930 ml of water and 70 ml (96.6 g) of corn syrup, cook >90°C for 10 minutes, add appropriate fungicides.
Food R Mix
Makes R food, the second most popular fly food of LabExpress.
Pre-measured dry mix. Each 1.115 kg pouch makes 10 L of fly food. Molasses syrup needs to be added.
Per Liter of R Food
- Agar: 0.55%
- Cornmeal: 7.0%
- Inactivated Yeast: 4.0%
- Molasses: 8.0%
Usage:
To make 1 liter of food, dissolve 115.5 g of mix in 920 ml of water and 80 ml (114.4 g) of molasses syrup, cook >90°C for 10 minutes, add appropriate fungicides.

Usage:
Dissolve 50 g of mix in 1 liter of water, adjust pH to 6.8, and autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes.
