Bacteria Plates
LB Agar Plates
Formula:
- NaCl: 1%
- Tryptone: 1%
- Yeast Extract: 0.5%
- Agar: 1.5%
LB Agar w/ Ampicillin (100ug/ml)
Ampicillin sodium loses its activity quickly after being reconstituted in water. Store at 4°C upon receiving and use within seven days.
Formula:
- NaCl: 1%
- Tryptone: 1%
- Yeast Extract: 0.5%
- Agar: 1.5%
- Ampicillin: 100ug/ml
LB Agar w/ Carbenicillin (35ug/ml)
Carbenicillin is more resistant to heat and low pH than ampicillin, making it a good substitute. It also reduces the presence of colony satellites.
Formula:
- NaCl: 1%
- Tryptone: 1%
- Yeast Extract: 0.5%
- Agar: 1.5%
- Carbenicillin: 35ug/ml

Worm Plates
NGM Plates
Normal Growth Medium plates for worm culturing. Available vented or non-vented. Vented plates have three breather legs on the lid for better aeration, resulting in faster drying and thicker bacterial lawns, but can dry out or become contaminated more easily than non-vented plates.
Formula:
- Bacto-Peptone: 0.25%
- NaCl: 51 mM
- Phosphate buffer: 25 mM
- Cholesterol: 5 ug/ml
- CaCl2: 1 mM
- MgSO4: 1 mM
- Agar: 2% or Bacto-Agar: 2% or Carbenicillin: 100ug/ml
HGM Plates
High Growth Medium plates. Peptone content is 8x that of NGM plates. When seeded with bacteria, HGM plates yield very thick bacterial lawns, suitable for growing large quantities of worms.

- NaCl: 51 mM
- Phosphate buffer: 25 mM
- Cholesterol: 5 ug/ml
- CaCl2: 1 mM
